Common questions about fire safety approvals.
Do I need Civil Defence approval before I can open my business?
For most commercial license types, yes — a Civil Defence NOC is typically required before Dubai Economy & Tourism will issue or renew your trade license. The exact requirement depends on your activity and premises, which we'll confirm for your specific case.
What's the difference between Civil Defence and Dubai Municipality approval?
Civil Defence focuses specifically on fire and life safety — extinguishers, alarms, emergency exits and evacuation routes. Dubai Municipality covers broader building, health and environmental compliance. Many premises need approvals from both, and we can help coordinate either.
Who installs the fire safety equipment?
Installation and certification of extinguishers, alarms and sprinkler systems must be carried out by a DCD-approved fire safety contractor — this isn't something BAEZ installs directly. We handle the application and paperwork side, and can coordinate with your contractor as part of the process.
How often does a Civil Defence certificate need renewal?
Renewal timing depends on your certificate type and premises. We track your specific expiry date once we're handling your file, so you're never caught off guard at license renewal time.
What happens if my premises doesn't pass inspection?
If an inspection identifies gaps, you'll typically need to address them — often through your fire safety contractor — before re-submission. We can advise on next steps based on the specific findings for your premises.
